Our aims
NUMA was incorporated 28 January 2003. It's purpose is to support and provide resources for Maori living in urban locatlities.
Individual authorities have been at the forefront of advocating the rights of urban Māori. In 2003, a National Urban Māori Authority was formed as a political voice for city-dwelling Māori.
Aims and objectives of NUMA:
1. To promote programmes, projects that are beneficial to Maori living in urban localities
2. To provide schemes services and facilities for the promotion of the social, cultural and economic welfare of Maori living in urban localities
3. To advance and promote amongst Maori living in urban localities education in connection with Te reo me ona tikanga.
4. To provide scholarships and other financial assistance to Maori living in urban localities to attend schools, universities technical institutes and other educational and training institutes.
5. Provide sustenance and means of obtaining sustenance to any employees or ex employee of the Trust and the families of employees or ex-employees.
6. Support, provide resources and loans for the upgrading of existing housing anbd the provision of new housing and public amenities including roads and other similar facilities for Maori livingin urban localities.
